De-Fleet & Lease Return FAQs
Do I have to use the leasing company’s preferred repairer?
No. You have the legal right to choose where your vehicle is repaired before it is returned. Leasing companies often charge inflated rates for “in-house” repairs after the vehicle has been collected. By using Sapphire Garage, you can rectify damage at a transparent, fixed cost, ensuring the work meets all manufacturer and return standards.
What is the BVRLA "Fair Wear and Tear" standard?
The BVRLA (British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association) sets the industry standard for what constitutes acceptable ageing versus chargeable damage. We use these exact guidelines to assess your vehicle. If a scratch or dent falls outside of “Fair Wear and Tear,” we will identify it and offer a cost-effective repair to prevent you from being hit with high penalty charges.
How long does the de-fleet process take?
It depends on the damage, but we aim for fast turnarounds. We’ll give you a clear timeline after the assessment.
Can Sapphire Garage handle large commercial van fleets?
Yes. Our 3.5-acre Manchester facility is specifically equipped for commercial vehicle de-fleeting. We can accommodate vans up to 5.5 tonnes and manage high-volume fleet returns simultaneously. We also provide livery and decal removal as part of the de-fleet process.
What are the most common lease return charges?
The most frequent penalties are issued for alloy wheel scuffs, chips in the windscreen (especially those in the driver’s line of sight), and “out-of-spec” tyre tread depth. We check all of these areas—plus interior upholstery and electronic safety systems—to ensure your vehicle is “return-ready.”
Can you remove company branding and decals?
Yes. We provide professional livery removal that ensures no ghosting or adhesive residue is left on the paintwork. This is a critical step in the de-fleeting process, as many leasing providers charge heavily for vehicles returned with any remaining commercial branding.
Is the work guaranteed to pass the lease inspection?
We repair all vehicles to OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) standards using manufacturer-approved methods. Because we follow the same inspection criteria used by major leasing companies, our work is designed specifically to pass their return audits, saving you from unexpected end-of-contract invoices.
